Continue the Political Revolution!
My name is Evan Redmond and I am running for Ann Arbor City Council in Ward 3. I’ve lived in Ann Arbor since 2009 when I began my undergraduate education at The University of Michigan. I graduated in 2013 with a degree in neuroscience and began working at the Michigan Institute for Clinical & Health Research. I have since changed fields and now work at a marketing analytics firm and recently graduated from The University of Michigan Dearborn with an M.B.A. and a M.S. in Business Analytics.
Even though I was informed on current events I never considered getting involved in politics before 2016. That election shifted my whole outlook on what role politics plays in our day-to-day lives. I realized that someone working 40 hours a week and not being able to make rent was political. I realized that the quality of public transportation was political. I realized that the ability to bargain with your employer was political.
The more I learned about business and economics in my classes the more I came to realize the specific flaws in our systems. This is why I joined the Democratic Socialists of America in 2018. In my view, the role of government should be to provide help and to expand the rights of all members of the community.
My first real experience in politics came in 2019 when I began volunteering for Bernie Sanders' 2020 presidential campaign. Even though he did not win Michigan the experience of community among organizers and the insights I got from talking with those in my community have shaped my worldview forever.
